Prerequisites

Open to Everyone; However in order to recieve official certification you must have one or more of the following:

  • Licensed or credentialed:

    Physical Therapist, Physical Therapy Assistant, Chiropractor, Athletic Trainer, Physician, Occupational Therapist, Osteopath, or Athletic Therapist

  • Advanced education, having earned a Masters or Doctoral Degree in one of the following:

    Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Kinesiology, or Sport Science

  • Special approval may be granted for the following applicants:

    Students currently enrolled in a professional health program (SPT, OTS, etc.) or Individuals with advanced education, training, or professional experience outside of traditional academia (Rehab coordinators, FAFS, PRI, Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, etc.)

Max Wardell, DPT, CSCS, CAFS

Lead Instructor

Dr. Max Wardell is a physical therapist, biomechanist, and former collegiate baseball player who specializes in throwing athlete rehabilitation and biomechanics. He is the Director of the Overhead Athletic Institute.

Ed Martel MPT, OMPT

Special Instructor

Ed Martel (1969-2018) was biomechanist, physical therapist, and former professional baseball player with the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers organizations. Following his mechanical engineering education at Northwestern University and orthopedic physical therapy training at Oakland University he founded the Overhead Athletic Institute.

Derek Brady DPT, cDN

Instuctor

Derek is a physical therapist who specializes in movement analysis as well as post-surgical and non-surgical sports medicine and orthopedic rehabilitation.

    Each student must pass both the online written examination and in-person practical examination to become officially certified as TARS.

  • Prerequisites and Time

    There is no time limit to complete your certification, however you must complete the online curriculum and pass the final exam prior to attending PART 2 (in-person).

  • TARS Part Two

    Please contact Overhead Athletic Institute to schedule your inperson TARS Part Two course, you do not need to complete part one to start part two.
